The Lord’s Supper is the fulfillment of the Feast of Passover — the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Have you ever wondered why God was particular that unleavened bread be used for the Passover feast? What’s so wrong with leavened bread? Most of the bread we eat today is leavened…and it tastes good!

Part of the answer can be found in Exodus 12:11:

“Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste — it is the Lord’s Passover.”

Over 600,000 Jews were held captive in Egypt for 430 years. And in the middle of one single night, God acted quickly and delivered them. They needed to hurry. There was no time to wait for their dough to be leavened.

  1. God acts quickly and unexpectedly. The Jewish people waited and cried out for a long time — 430 years. But the manner in which God acted was quick. When deliverance comes from God, it comes suddenly.
  2. God’s people should act with a sense of urgency. When God tells me to do something, I should obey immediately without delay. I shouldn’t wait around. My immediate obedience shows that I trust that He is working to deliver me.

How long have you been praying for a breakthrough? Trust God’s promise of the unleavened bread. Stay faithful and always ready. Be obedient. Do your part — and watch what God will do quickly and unexpectedly.
