What’s the biggest price you’ve paid?

Paying a mortgage is a big debt to pay. It’s hard to relax until it is paid in full. And it can take half a lifetime to get there.

An even bigger debt is that of our sin. In fact, it is an impossible debt to pay with our own efforts. The good news is that sinless Jesus was found eligible to pay it—not just for you and me, but for ALL humanity. He paid the heaviest price on the cross.

Prophet Isaiah beautifully portrays the reasons which facilitated Jesus to pay this heavy price successfully (Isaiah 53:1-12).

  1. The Man of Sorrows (Verse 3). The sorrows endured by Jesus is indescribable. The burden of the sin of humanity laid on His shoulders was excruciatingly painful. He carried it for our sake. He is the High Priest who can understand our pain and sorrows (Hebrews 4:15).
  2. The Man of Silence (Verse 7). Jesus was audible throughout His ministry. He responded to questions raised by both honest seekers as well as His critics. Nevertheless, He kept quiet even when He was unjustly persecuted. He knew that He must keep silent so as to make us worthy.
  3. The Man of Blessing (Verse 10). As a result of the sufferings Jesus went through, He was anticipating a greater blessing for humanity. The price for Sin paid in full by Christ Jesus made us worthy in the sight of the great Just God.

Whenever we come to Lord’s Table, let’s be mindful of the heavy price our Lord paid on the cross to make us worthy. Walk worthy of the price paid for us, pleasing our Savior each and every day.
