You’ve probably heard of amazing grace, but have you heard of amazing faith?

There are several levels of faith described in the Bible. From no faith, to amazing faith.

Jesus was shocked by the lack of faith in the Jewish community. Their faith was immature.

However, he was amazed and extremely pleased by the level of faith of a Gentile—a centurion (Mathew 8:5-13, Luke 7:1-10). Jesus called it, “great faith.”

Here are three things about the centurion’s faith that amazed and pleased Jesus:

  1. The centurion’s humble, yet powerful statement of faith in the midst of the unbelieving community in Capernaum (Matthew 13:58; Mark 6:5). He addressed Jesus as “Lord.”
  2. The centurion carefully weighed his own words. He considered the words of the Lord Jesus to be significant and powerful.
  3. As a man of authority, the centurion acknowledged the authority of Jesus’ words. Therefore, he requested Jesus to just speak the word to heal his dying servant.

Today, let’s be careful with our choice of words. Let’s take the Word of God seriously and experience the power released when we believe in it.

For faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. God can only be pleased by our faith.

May our faith, DELIGHT our Master and Lord Jesus in the midst of an unbelieving community.
