Did you know that the Bible starts with a restriction?

If you’re like me, you probably don’t welcome restriction with open arms.

But God cautioned the first ever human couple on earth not to eat from the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:16, 17).

The Hebrew word for “knowledge” is da’at. This tree can be termed as the Da’at Tree.

The Da’at Tree was easily accessible to the couple. God forbade them to eat from the Da’at Tree to test their obedience and ultimately promote them from the state of childlike innocence to adult maturity (3:22). God wants human beings to be mature by way of obedience and staying connected to Him (1:28).

However, when they were tempted they disobeyed by eating from the Da’at tree. Temptations come in all forms.

The couple was careless and broke the commandment, disconnecting them from God. They were overpowered by the forces of darkness and death (2:17). Fear, frustration, dissatisfaction and disunity entered their personal and family life (3:10).

Do you feel discouraged, discontent, frustrated or angry with issues in your personal or family life? Are the Da’at Trees in your life too much for you? Don’t give up. Don’t yield to the fruits of temptations in the form of things or people that come your way. Go to the Tree of Life (the Word of God) and experience victory and deliverance from tempting thoughts, words and actions.

Although the Da’at Tree was planted by God to test them that they may grow, the enemy used it for temptation that they may fall. Praise God for granting grace because of the intercession of Jesus in times of difficulty (Luke 22:32; Hebrews 7:25). He works it out for our good in the end——like when Joseph faced tests and temptations (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28).

You’re not alone. The temptations in your life are not so different from what others experience. Our God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure it (1 Cor 10:13 NLT).
